Owners and managers of area businesses that sell alcoholic beverages can learn how to detect a fake ID, determine when to refuse service to an intoxicated patron, and avoid serious lawsuits by attending a safety training program at Heartland Community College. The Beverage Alcohol Seller/Server Education & Training (BASSET) program will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, August 12 on Heartland’s Normal campus at 1500 W. Raab Rd. BASSET’s Safety Training to Encourage Profitable Service (STEPS) program will provide information about seller/server alcohol intervention and prevention techniques, age-verification techniques and fake identification detection procedures, as well as information about liquor laws and liquor inspections. Participants who pass the training will receive a personalized BASSET card from the ILCC —a requirement for liquor-license establishments in Bloomington and many Illinois communities.
