Bloomington/Normal Community Campus Committee is determined to counter binge drinking through campus and community partnerships.
Owners, managers and servers at area businesses that sell alcoholic beverages can learn how to detect a fake ID, determine when to refuse service to an intoxicated patron, and avoid serious lawsuits by attending a safety training program at Heartland Community College (HCC). The Safety Training to Encourage Profitable Services (STEPS) program will provide information about seller/server alcohol intervention and prevention techniques, age-verification techniques and fake identification detection procedures, as well as information about liquor laws and liquor inspections. Participants who pass the training will receive a personalized BASSET card from the ILCC —a requirement for liquor-license establishments in many Illinois communities including Bloomington.
Open-enrollment STEPS training is offered on an ongoing basis through HCC’s Community Education department. Current course offering are scheduled for the evening of November 3 and the mornings of January 31 and May 16 at a cost of $39 per person. Individuals interested in attending can register by phoning HCC Community Education at (309) 268-8160 or visit www.heartland.edu/communityEd
