Bloomington/Normal Community Campus Committee is determined to counter binge drinking through campus and community partnerships.
Turn 21 Safely
When you turn 21 you can drink legally for the first time. Along with the privilege comes responsibility for both yourself and others. If you can avoid feeding into the myth that you need to get drunk or “drink 21” on this day, it will be a time for you to make enjoyable memories.
Make a plan for the night. Decide prior to going out what you want your birthday and you to look like at the end of the night. Determine the number of alcoholic drinks that you could safely consume. Alternate them with non-alcoholic beverages and eat some high-protein foods like nuts, cheese, and meats. Avoid salty foods — salt makes people thirstier. After all, it is you that could end up embarrassed or worse yet hurting yourself or others.
